8 Golf Destinations in Gujarat

Long drives, perfect putts and perfect spots – if you love golf, you are sure to enjoy Gujarat’s many impressive golf destinations. Home to the superb Gaekwad Baroda Golf Club, which dates back to the 1930s, Gujarat has recently seen the emergence of several world-class golf courses – alongside a hotel or timeshare villas – around Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Vadodara. The Indian golf industry may be in its infancy, but Gujarat is poised to grow as it attracts domestic and international golf enthusiasts and prospective golfers.

Where: Vadodara
The multicultural ethos of this former princely state is rooted in the vision of Sayajirao Gaekwad III, the Maharaja of Baroda State from 1875 to 1939. residents and new buildings sit side by side with heritage structures.

Gaekwad Baroda Golf Club
One of the most prestigious golf clubs in Gujarat, the Gaekwad Baroda Golf Club is located right in the heart of the city. The setting – amidst the magnificent Lukshmi Villas palace built in 1890 by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III – adds to the heritage of this regal stretch of greenery that has been home to many jet-set celebrities. Established in the 1930s as a private course, it was renovated and opened to the public in the 1990s. The 10-hole course, designed and developed by Ranjit Nanda, features pristine greens punctuated by natural water features, five teeing ground options on every hole and a perfect layout for shooters and strategic players.
Hours: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Where: Ahmedabad
India’s first urban UNESCO World Heritage Site is a city of contrasts: centuries-old architecture and contemporary design, bustling old quarter and modern city across the river, street food and gourmet restaurants. Apart from the many bustling hotels, a range of golf destinations have developed around the megalopolis.

Gulmohar Greens Golf & Country Club

This 18-hole adventure golf course covers an area of ​​3,500 square feet and caters to all age groups. Positioned as a practice area and playful activity, the golf resort designed by architects Nimishbhai Patel and Parulben Zaveri for Parikh Group spans a verdant expanse of 75 acres. Gulmohar Greens Golf & Country Club offers a range of activities and sports, as well as luxurious accommodation, a dedicated sports complex, athletic jogging track, party lawns, restaurants, conference and banquet facilities . Spread over approximately 75 acres of green space, the property features a nine-hole par 36 golf course with facilities for practice and recreation. A five-acre driving range allows members to learn and practice their golf skills, and a professional coach is on hand to help enthusiasts refine their game. The club also has a golf academy with state-of-the-art training equipment, gadgets and software. Coaching packages for junior and adult golfers are also available.

Kensville Country Club
Located off Dev Dholera, approximately 40 km from Ahmedabad, this 18-hole championship golf course was co-designed by India’s top golfer Jeev Milkha Singh and Col (Retired) KD Bagga. The club is part of a residential community and the golf courses are open to members and their guests. The clubhouse, overlooking tee 1 and green 18, is a wonderful blend of colonial architecture and design and impeccable service. Cleverly placed bunkers, water features and contoured greens offer a fascinating challenge to the avid golfer. Other attractions include manicured gardens and landscaped grounds. The 2011 Gujarat Kensville Challenge, held at the club, was the European Challenge’s first tour of India and marked Gujarat’s first appearance on the international golf circuit. Other popular tournaments held here include the Mercedes Trophy, Audi Quattro Cup and BMW Golf Cup International. Many celebrities have taken part in the course.

Belvedere Golf and Country Club
Located in Shantigram, the township established by the Adani Group in Ahmedabad, this club promises an exceptional golfing experience on its 9-hole golf course, which plays at a par 36 amidst 100 acres of lush greenery. The driving range has 22 berths, a chipping green and a practice bunker. The driving range includes a practice and game analysis room with sophisticated V1 Pro video analysis as well and a Sam Puttlab tool, which uses ultrasound to analyze putts. Golf lessons are also offered at the on-site golf academy. The shop is well stocked and its restaurant popular with golfers.

Kalhaar blues and greens

Designed by legendary golfing icon Jack Nicklaus’ company, Nicklaus Design, this beautiful golf course boasts of being one of the greenest spots in Ahmedabad. The 18-hole golf course is lush and promises hours of golfing fun. Dotted with 14 lakes and white sand bunkers against the lush green, the property extends beyond the golf course. The lifestyle community project comprises 801 residential villas and a clubhouse, spa and resort. Facilities include a swimming pool, health club, mini theatre, cafeteria, tennis courts and relaxation areas. The pro shop offers a range of golf equipment, apparel and accessories.

Glade One Golf Club
Minutes from Ahmedabad, Glade One combines natural beauty and recreation. The championship golf course was designed by Gary Player Design, a multi-award winning company that has completed over 325 courses in over 35 countries. Each of the nine holes has been meticulously designed and strikes a balance between aesthetics, playability, strategy and recreation. It not only offers programs for men, women, young adults and juniors, but also the latest instructional equipment and PGA/NGAI certified instructors. Facilities at this golf resort include luxurious rooms, a spa, swimming pools, as well as a number of multi-cuisine restaurants. You couldn’t ask for more.

Where: Gandhinagar
The capital of Gujarat is located on the industrial corridor between Delhi and Mumbai. The green city has many tourist attractions including Akshardham Temple, Indroda Nature Park and Science City. But lately, golf resorts have put the city on the map.

Aalloa Hills Resort

Situated just 15 km from Gandhinagar, this golf resort is spread over 500 acres of hilly terrain. Located on the banks of the Sabarmati, with a vast reserve of forest land on one side and a verdant valley on the other, Aalloa Hills Resort offers the perfect golf getaway. The Opal by Cambay, located close to the Mahatma Mandir, 1 km from the state capital Gandhinagar, is extremely popular. The beautiful green surroundings, the 9-hole golf course with 30 grass stations, the floodlit courses (par 32) for night golf and the villas are spread over an area of ​​78,746 m². The resort regularly hosts professional tournaments, but amateurs can also take advantage of the 240-meter-long and 40-meter-wide driving range.
