Frankie Dettori to shine in York Dante Stakes and Yorkshire Cup ahead of Epsom Derby

York is hosting the massive Dante Festival this week while also featuring several group races and high level action with some of the most promising young sprinters.
The races at this festival will provide insight into many of the runners entered for the big upcoming events including the Epsom Derby and Royal Ascot.

Buick won the Dante Stakes in 2021 on Hurricane Lane for Godolphin and Appleby
The Dante Festival will start on Wednesday May 11 and will continue until Friday May 13.
There are a total of 21 races held at York Racecourse during the Dante Festival.
Including several group races, Musidora Stakes on Wednesday, Dante Stakes on Thursday and Yorkshire Cup Stakes on Friday.
Last year’s Dante Stakes could end up repeating a fairly similar lineup with Godolphin colors driven by Charlie Appleby with William Buick on horseback, Frankie Dettori and Ryan Moore in the mix and a few Aidan O’Brien horses involved.

Emily Upjohn at 10/11

Dettori rides Emily Upjohn to win at Sandown in April
This race is an ideal warm-up race for the Oaks at Epsom, as Emily Upjohn is the favorite for it and a close second favorite in the June 3 race.
Life Of Dreams is around 5/2 to win in York but is underappreciated for the Oaks at around 9 in betting currently.
At 1m2½f, that’s a slightly shorter distance they’ll have to tackle in less than a month, but considering these starters should be more than capable of both trips.
Emily Upjohn justified the favoritism last month at Sandown by winning by a huge margin of more than nine lengths with Dettori on board.
He will take over the reins on the horse trained by Gosden who also has a very eye-catching pedigree, as he is by Sea The Stars, another Epsom Derby and multiple Group 1 winner.
Life Of Dreams is a compelling second favorite though with the in-form Appleby and Buick combination proving deadly early in the season.
Godolphin’s colors have been seen dominating before and the jockey-trainer combo struck again with Life Of Dreams at Newbury last month in a Class 4 event.
If the horse trained by Appleby makes it difficult for Emily Upjohn, the price at the Oaks will be sharply shortened, but the Dettori and Gosden duo should have enough to see this Class 1 in style.
Dante Stakes Betting Tip and Overview (Group 2)
Magistral at 11/4 and reverse forecast with Desert Crown
GETTY
Point Lonsdale won the Chesham Stakes at Ascot last year, but failed to deliver last time out at Newmarket, and are now targeting the Derby and Dante
Now, the Dante Stakes really offer a great perspective on the runner before the Derby.
Desert Crown is the favorite of this Group 2 race disputed over 1m2½f.
In Derby’s ante-post market, the horse trained by Sir Michael Stoute is 6/1 behind O’Brien’s Stone Age and Luxembourg.
Richard Kingscote will be aboard the favorite who will face many Derby underdogs including Magisterial, Point Lonsdale, Walk Of Stars, Royal Patronage and many more.
However, these are huge prices currently from 16/1 to over 33/1.
But you can’t discount them with much ease and those odds will change dramatically again if one of them performs well on Thursday.
One who could see their price drop 25/1 in the Derby with a possible winning run at York is Magisterial, trained by the Gosdens and again boarded by Dettori.
The Gosdens have a 23% win rate over the past fortnight (as of Monday May 9) and are from Frankel, the highest rated horse by Racing Post Rating standards, and have been undefeated, including more than 10 contests of group 1.
Pedigree is a massive indication of his ability to handle terrain, courses and distance and the signs point to another impressive horse if he improves.
