DAYTONA BEACH, FL. – Graduate student Margot Bechadergue (Aix en Provence, France) shot an even par, 72, to lift the Seton Hall women’s golf team to second place after the first round of the Sacred Heart Spring Invitational on Friday.

Bechadergue used four birdies to shoot 4-under on the front nine, but was 4-over on the back nine. She enters Saturday’s final round in fourth place among 92 individual golfers and trails individual leader Maya Robilio of Sacred Heart by three strokes.

Collectively, the Pirates shot an 8-over-par, 296, in the first round and trail team leader Sacred Heart by five shots. Hall has a 13-shot cushion on third-placed LIU.

Junior Ludovica Busetto (Padua, Italy) birdied four Friday en route to a 2-over-par 74. She is currently tied for sixth overall.

Sarah Fouratt (Santa Maria, California) and Ana Sarrias Pro (Cádiz, Spain) are currently tied for 10and place after shooting a 3-over-par, 75. Both had 13 pars and a birdie in the first round.

Only one stroke behind Fouratt and Sarrias Pro is Ginevra Zavagli (Rome, Italy). The second started her day tied for 11 holes and finished at 4 over par with a 76. She is tied for 14and globally.

Participate as an individual Sasha Amelang (Houston, TX) shot an 11 over par, 83.

THE LESSON

Since 1994, the LPGA International’s Rees Jones Golf Course has been a player favorite on the tour. This is a traditional 7,088 yard ties style design. You will appreciate the strategic hillocks, the many stretches of sand bunkers, the natural marshy areas, the beautiful lakes and the rolling greens. While extremely playable for all skill levels, the resourceful and inventive player is rewarded with multiple options on almost every shot.

The Jones course is rated 4 stars by Golf Digest and was ranked 6th in their list of “The 50 Best American Courses for Women 2010”.

FIELD

In addition to Seton Hall and host Sacred Heart, the field is made up of 12 other teams including: Eastern Illinois, Evansville, Fairfield, Hartford, Holy Cross, Lehigh, LIU, Merrimack, Mount St. Mary’s, Purdue-Fort Wayne , Siena and Saint Francis (Pennsylvania).

THE FORMAT

Teams will compete against five golfers and count the four lowest scores per round.
